    The legend of Okichi Saito, who was forced to be the concubine of Townsend Harris, first US consul in Japan. Divorced from her lover she bacame an alcoholic, finally reunited with him she was considered as an outcast. To free her fiancÈ from the stain, she leaves him. He then ruins himself with sake and soon dies. Okichi survives him for twenty years until she commits suicide by drowning herself in the sea. In Shimoda there is a museum dedicated to her memory.
