Fujimori led
Peru in the last decade of the 20th century. He succeeded in
curbing Sendero
Luminoso, the Shining Path, a violent and sectarian Maoist guerilla
movement. He also gave the country some new economic impulse. But his
methods were controversial, and not always as democratic as
should be in
a decent democracy. Recently he tried again to get involved in Peruvian
politics, but was arrested in Chile. A continuing
biography. |
